AMIC Announces Upcoming Public Webinar: Rebuilding U.S. Maritime Power: A Strategic Roadmap from Now to Next

Live Webinar | February 12, 4:00 PM EST

Weston, CT — The American Maritime Industrial Coalition (AMIC) today announced its upcoming public webinar, Rebuilding U.S. Maritime Power: A Strategic Roadmap from Now to Next, taking place on February 12, at 4:00 pm EST. The webinar will convene leading maritime, policy, and industry experts to present an evidence-based framework for restoring and strengthening the United States’ maritime industrial base.

At a critical moment marked by limited shipbuilding capacity, aging port and shipyard infrastructure, workforce shortages, and growing global competition, AMIC’s first webinar moves beyond awareness to focus on execution. The session will outline what must be done immediately, what must be built next, and what must be sustained over the long term to ensure national, economic and security resilience.

“We are living in a unique moment when government is recognizing the need to revitalize our maritime industry, and it is ready to act,” says co-founder Carleen Lyden Walker. “AMIC’s goal is to connect demand with supply to create results.”

The webinar will begin with opening framing on the urgency of the need for a resurgence to the shipbuilding industry and the activity that led to AMIC’s formation, followed by a current understanding of where the United States is from Dr. Sal Mercogliano, offering a “word from the waterways” on operational limitations, infrastructure differences, workforce channels, and regulatory friction.

Dr. Beatriz Canamary will present insights drawn from AMIC research and white papers, highlighting structural issues revealed by data and gaps between policy intent and industrial reality. These findings will set the foundation for a phased strategic roadmap presented by Rear Admiral Jim Watson, outlining near-, mid-, and long-term actions required to stop erosion, unlock capacity, modernize infrastructure, align capital, and build lasting maritime strength.

The session will also feature regional insights from Darren Shelton, showcasing Texas and Gulf Coast initiatives as real-world case studies that can scale nationally. Jonathan Chia will address the importance of clear messaging and momentum, emphasizing how aligned narratives and credible pathways mobilize industry, capital, and public support.

The webinar will conclude with a call to action, outlining AMIC’s role as a connector across policy, capital, labor, and operations, and inviting stakeholders to engage in upcoming initiatives, including SHIPPINGInsight’s Leadership Roundtable in Houston on February 25th. This webinar marks the first step in AMIC’s mission to translate strategy into sustained, on-the-ground progress.
