Houston, TX – November 5, 2025 —As an output from SHIPPINGInsight’s Leadership Roundtable that took place on October 16^th in Houston, TX, SuRe Strategy Group’s Dr. Beatriz Canamary has synthesized the insights from the meeting into a pivotal white paper.  Revitalizing America’s Maritime Power: A National Blueprint for Industrial Renewal, Security, and Competitiveness, provides the maritime community and government with a sequenced framework for rebuilding U.S. maritime strength across ports, shipbuilding, workforce, and innovation.

The document captures the discussion and contributions of the 2025 SHIPPINGInsight Leadership Roundtable, where 49 industry leaders defined priority actions to reverse decades of decline in maritime capacity and reposition the U.S. as a competitive maritime nation.

Dr. Canamary’s paper identifies five systemic barriers holding back U.S. maritime progress—fragmented governance, workforce shortages, underinvestment in innovation, misaligned incentives, and unsupported Jones Act and US-Flag compliance environment—all which call for coordinated industry-wide action to address them.

“The opportunity exists today — but policy continuity across administrations will determine whether America achieves maritime leadership,” the paper states.

The white paper emphasizes that maritime revitalization highlights every national priority; from supply-chain stability and manufacturing revival to energy transition and defense readiness. It calls for government, industry, and cross-sector alignment to rebuild the maritime workforce, modernize infrastructure, and strengthen U.S. industrial independence.
