The Road Not Taken
Read the full newsletter here.
As the days fly by leading to MEPC in July, the myriad of choices facing the industry to mitigate its emissions impact have not shrunk. The benefits and risks of each type are still under discussion, and demonstrations in development.
The choice of fuel is only part of the equation. Infrastructure and supply are also to be factored, as is the NET environmental impact. In the meantime, what is shipping to do?
As we search for long, or even midterm solutions, let’s not forget that actions can be taken now. Many fleet owners are deploying digital tools to help voyage and operational management. Some are using technologies such as hull paint and bubbling systems to reduce drag. Others are deploying combustion catalysts and wind assist to reduce their emissions and improve fuel consumption.
Many roads are in front of us for short-, medium- and long-term action. Not taking one is NOT an option.
Keep optimizing,
Carleen
