Turning the Titanic around?
Read the full newsletter here.
It is happening! After years of research, development, investment and testing, we are seeing the shift the industry needs to make to meet climate goals and societal expectations. For a long period, we have known WHAT we need to do in order to meet aggressive targets for emission reduction, but the HOW eluded us. With 63 of all ship orders this year specifying alternative fuel capabilities, we are on our way!
While the ultimate answer, the “silver bullet” still eludes us, industry is taking the plunge and investing in options it believes will carry us over the next couple of decades. It is recognizing that we cannot adopt a “wait and see” approach, but must move TOWARDS solutions, even if they aren’t the ultimate solution. This is risk in its truest form- and must be taken.
Those who claim industry isn’t doing enough will, hopefully, be chastened. Those who are still wondering which direction to take will be inspired. Information and value will be gained in the process that will benefit all.
If only Captain Smith had seen the iceberg in time to change course…
Keep Optimizing,
Carleen
