Come into the Shark Tank – if you dare!!

What is the Shark Tank?

Shark Tank is an American business reality television series on ABC that premiered on August 9, 2009. The show is the American franchise of the international format Dragons’ Den, which originated in Japan as the Tigers of Money show in 2001. It shows entrepreneurs making business presentations to a panel of five investors or “sharks,” who decide whether to invest in their company. (Wikipedia)

How does it work?

At SHIPPINGInsight, a panel of judges (NYMIC, SeaAhead, Washington Maritime Blue and The Maritime Alliance) selects 7 contestants (“chum”, as in fish bait) to pitch their ideas to a panel of shipowners and investors for funding. The winner of the Shark Tank will be the recipient of the 2019 SHIPPINGInsight Innovation Award.

Who are the Sharks?

SharkJack Noonan, President, Binnacle Maritime LLC
Shark: James Thomas, Managing Partner, Thomas Maritime
Shark: Antonios Backos, Director and Advisor, Bluewater Acquisition Corp
Shark: Kevin Humphreys, General Manager – Merchant & Gas Carrier Segment Sales, Wärtsilä
Shark: Rich Pruitt, Vice President Environmental Operations, Carnival Cruise Lines
Shark: Marina Hadjipateras, Co-Founder & General Partner, Trail Mix Ventures

Who are the chum?

That remains to be seen. There will be a total of 7 participants selected from the pool of entries. Interested participants should submit their pitch in the form of a PowerPoint (in pdf format for security) complete with project outline, prospective market, financial parameters and short-medium-long term goals. Submissions should be sent to info@shippinginsight.com.

SHIPPINGInsight’s SHARK TANK was the hit of last year’s conference, and successful for the “chum”—6 out of the 7 were picked up by companies. It’s an opportunity to hear from the innovators who are changing the face of the shipping industry with creative new technologies.

Join us at SHIPPINGInsight for SHARK TANK!!

Keep optimizing,
