Denmark deploys sniffer drone

2019-04-15 – Denmark continues to deploy smart technology to crack down on ships that fail to comply with environmental regulations. The Scandinavian nation already has so-called sniffer technology on the underside of bridges to check emissions of ships coming into its waters. In the coming months, a large drone will check emissions from ships in Danish waters to make sure they comply with the sulphur limit. MPA Singapore unveils its future digitalization plans

2019-04-11 – The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), during the 4th Singapore Maritime Technology Conference, announced its plans to focus on digitalization, assisting companies innovate and be more productive. The Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI) will present the Singapore Maritime R&D Roadmap 2030 to optimise R&D efforts and resources for greater value co-creation within the maritime industry, Dr Lam Pin Min, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Transport & Ministry of Health reported. . . READ MORE

Digital Container Shipping Association launched with Maersk exec installed as CEO

2019-04-16 – Four of the world’s largest liners have officially debuted a new association to standardise digital developments, installing a Maersk high-flier as its first CEO.  Thomas Bagge (pictured) will head up the Digital Container Shipping Association, a grouping that includes Maersk, MSC, Hapag-Lloyd and Ocean Network Express (ONE). Infographic: LNG reduces GHG emissions by 21%

2019-04-12 – SEA\LNG and SGMF launched a study according to which GHG reductions of up to 21% are achievable now from LNG as a marine fuel, in comparison to the existent oil-based marine fuels over the entire life-cycle from Well-to-Wake (WtW). The study also confirms that emissions from sulphur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM), are close to zero when using LNG compared with current conventional oil-based marine fuels. . . READ MORE

Interlake Steamship Company to Construct First U.S.-Flagged ‘Laker’ in 35 Years
