Scrubbers Set to Help Shippers Meet the New Sulfur Cap

art3November 16, 2016 — “By 2025, up to 20 percent of the global fleet could have [scrubber] technology installed,” estimates DuPont Clean Technologies Marine Business Development Manager, Europe, Marco Dierico. “Ship owners and operators that want to minimize costly changes and continue to burn heavy fuel oil (HFO) will require a scrubber to clean the fuel. It is estimated that in the run up to 2020, between 500 to 2,000 additional ships will retrofit with scrubbers.”

EnScrub’s Sea Trials Completed

art4November 14, 2016 — EnSolve Biosystems said it has completed sea trials of its EnScrub SOx Scrubber Water Treatment System onboard a vessel operating in the Baltic Region. The EnScrub system was installed in April 2016 and the DNV certification testing that was conducted in August 2016 revealed that during closed-loop operation, the EnScrub system was successful in legally discharging 97 percent of the SOx scrubber water entering the system. The remaining 3 percent (sludge) was sent to a decanter for further dewatering.

MarineLinkGE and Korean partners plan LPG fueled COGES ferry

art5November 15, 2016 — GE Aviation’s marine gas turbine business has signed a multilateral memorandum of understanding (MOU) with several South Korean partners to cooperate in the joint development of LPG-fueled ferry design. It will feature GE’s compact and lightweight Combined Gas Turbine, Electric and Steam (COGES) system for all ship power, including propulsion.
